Common Name(s): Double Yellow-head, Mexican Yellow-headed Amazon | ||
Natural Range: Pacific and Gulf coast regions of Mexico. | ||
Description: Length 15 inches. Head and throat yellow. Bend of wing red mixing with yellow. Thigh is yellow. Beak in light horn colored. Iris is orange. Immature Amazons have a darker iris and lack the coloration on the bend of wing. The yellow on the head is also less pronounced. These colors fill in as the bird matures. | ||
Comments about (sub)species: Known to be an excellent talker, some with very large vocabularies. Common in the pet trade. Expect to pay around $750-$1000 per weaned parrot. |

**They is still a debate as to the classification of this species. In the past it is more commonly classified as a subspecies under Amazona ochrocephala. I chose to classify it this way because I believe it the classification used by most modern aviculturists.
